About
Us:
WHO WE ARE
Highland Community Residential Services (HCRS) supports community
inclusion for people with intellectual
disabilities or mental health issues. HCRS is a non-profit
organization that is governed by a volunteer board of directors.
We
support people living in a variety of arrangements located in
Trenton, New Glasgow, Stellarton, Westville and Pictou County.
We
value an individualized approach to developing supports
and community living options. HCRS was established in 1977 with one
group home and nine people. Today, we support more than 70
people living in several homes and apartments.
HCRS is able to support
people dealing with an intellectual disability through its partnership
with the Province of Nova Scotia Department of Community Services.
In addition to residential supports, HCRS
promotes
sustainable social supports for children and families dealing with an
intellectual disability.
These programs are made possible through our partnership with the
United Way of Pictou County.
HCRS, through its Northern
Region Respite Service, helps families plan relief care for children
who have an intellectual disability. It coordinates respite services
to communities from Amherst to Canso. Respite services are also made
possible through funding from Department of Community Services.
