HCRS Foundation:
Highland
Community Residential Services (HCRS) provides community-based
residential supports to over 70 people dealing with an Intellectual
Disability or Mental Health issue. HCRS supports these persons in
homes and apartments located throughout New Glasgow, Stellarton,
Trenton and Westville.
HCRS established
the Foundation in 1994 with bequests from A. C. MacLean and M. V.
Jackson. The Foundation exists to support the capital activities of
HCRS. Over the past several years the Foundation has funded the
housing needs of people supported by HCRS. This includes buying or
building houses to meet specific needs.
The Foundation
uses its funds to help HCRS acquire capital assets by providing down
payments or by covering the full cost. The Foundation funds groups
that organize social events throughout the year, including a Christmas
party, for persons with intellectual
disabilities. The Foundation also supports a recreational summer
activity program for children with intellectual disabilities.
The Foundation is
a registered charity and is incorporated as a nonprofit society in the
province of Nova Scotia. A volunteer Board of Directors governs the
Foundation and it does not have any employees. The Foundation raises
capital in part through an annual fund raising evening and auction.
Donations are tax deductible and can
be made at HCRS, by cheque or by using the above link.
